Angie McMahon rocks das Triffid

Genau das ist gestern am Freitag, den 7. September passiert. Das Triffid ist ein relativ neues Venue in Newstead. Relativ, erst 2014 aufgemacht mit einer Kapazität von 800 Leuten. Fast hätten wir den Auftritt verpasst, weil ich die Karten vor schon einer langen Zeit gekauft hatte und da wir am Mittwoch bei Nigel Farage waren, schreibe ich noch darüber, hatte ich überhautpt mit mehr daran gedacht. Erst als ich auf dem Weg nach Hause von der M1 die Ausfahrt nahm ist es mir wie Schuppen von den Augen gefallen und mir bewusst geworden, dass das Konzert an diesem Tag war. Da war es schon 18:20 Uhr. Los ging es um 20 Uhr, nicht wirklich, aber das dachte ich. So musste Marius sich im Schnelldurchgang duschen und anziehen. Anja informierte ich, diese war zum Glück noch in Brisbane und musste nur kurz rübermachen. Wir fuhren dann so gegen 18:50 Uhr los und wären gegen 19:45 Uhr dort gewesen, nur verhinderte ein Unfall auf der M1 das. Die Ankunft verschob sich auf nach kurz 8. Ein Parkplatz fanden wir recht schnell. Dann stand dem Abend nichts mehr im Wege. Leider haben sich die Zeiten geändert. Die erste Vorband war um 20:30 dran, die zweite Vorband, der Herr Leif Vollebekk, gegen 21:15 Uhr und Angie erst gegen 22:20 Uhr.

Kann man nichts machen, die Zeitspanne wurde mit Bier überbrückt. Als Angie dann endlich auf der Bühne war, rockte sie diese bis zum geht nicht mehr. Der Sound war ebenfalls fantastisch. Nicht zu leise, aber nicht zu laut. Einfach ein guter Klang. Sie führte dann auch ein total neues Lied auf. Einfach klasse. Mehr will ich eigentlich nicht zum Auftritt sagen, ich werde einfach einen Artikel von einem Journalisten beifügen, die werden schließlich dafür bezahlt.

Eine Sache gibt es noch zu erzählen, kurz vor Schluss holte Angie ein Paar zur Bühne damit der Herr seiner ausgewählten Dame einen Antrag machen konnte. Danach spielte sie ihren bisher größten Hit Slow Mower. Was für eine Show. Der Auftritt war kurz nach Mitternacht zu Ende. Wir waren dann erst gegen 1 Uhr zu Hause. Weil das Abendbrot wegen Zeitmangel ausgefallen war, kochte ich uns noch Pasta mit Soße, nur für Marius und mich. Anja zog es gleich ins Bett. Dieses suchten wir gegen 2 Uhr ebenfalls auf.

Angie McMahon – Warmth to your soul!

Melbourne certainly knows how to turn out a great crowd. The Forum Theatre in the heart of the city was ablaze with the scent of millennial for Angie McMahon’s first Australian headlining tour.

Fronting the stage and the hardest job for the night was first support Hayden Calnin, who looked right at home on stage. Hailing from Melbourne, this local lad played mellow but melodic tunes to the rapidly growing crowd. The audience warmed to the singer/songwriter and gave an enthusiastic applause at the end of his set.

Up next was Canadian indie-folk singer/songwriter Leif Vollebekk. The 2018 Juno Award finalist, is no stranger to the stage after recently touring throughout North America and Europe on the back of his latest release. His brooding vocals and stage presence certainly was a crowd winner even with an equipment malfunction through his second number. Being a true professional, he used the accidental feedback to his advantage and continued on performing and leaving his heart on the stage open and raw! If you were to mix Paulo Nutini and Harry Connick Jnr you would get Volllebek. For a soloist on keys and occasional guitar he certainly captivated the audience! If he hadn’t won the crowd over yet, his rendition of Prince’s “How come you don’t call me anymore’ tipped them over the edge!

Headlining act, Angie McMahon appeared on stage to a euphoric applause. Vocal reminiscent of Margo Timmins, Angie mesmerised the crowd and proved as to why she was a Triple J unearthed winner. Enchanting bold vocals accompanied with her beautiful guitar tones, proved why tonight’s gig was at almost capacity and why she was the headliner. McMahon’s interaction with the crowd was sweet and endearing and wasn’t to show a vulnerability that most artists try to hide. Asking the crowd to give a round of applause as a sign of appreciation for all the support that she has got from her manager was just another sign of just how humble she is.

The sound quality was impeccable as was the tight band supporting her! The lighting tech clearly got the brief right as well with it matching McMahon’s soulfulness and mellow tunes.. For someone so young, there sure is soul and an earnest longing in her voice.

There is something about music that always brings people together, and tonight Angie McMahon was the reason why so many people walked out with a spring in their step and a smile on their face. Thanks Angie for a memorable night full of hauntingly beautiful melodies and an extra warmth in my soul.
